NASA launched the Pioneer 10 spacecraft in 1972 with a mission to rendezvous with Jupiter and then head out for deep space. Affixed to the craft is a 6” x 9” gold anodized aluminum plate designed to share information about humans with other intelligent life in the universe. The plaque includes representations of a man and a woman, a hydrogen atom, a model of our solar system, and a map of the Sun’s position relative to 14 pulsars and the center of the Milky Way galaxy.
